So, you’ve just had a beautiful new resin bound driveway installed by Initial Driveway Installations. It looks sleek, the colors are vibrant, and the curb appeal is at an all-time high.
While resin is famously low-maintenance, a little bit of "proactive care" goes a long way in protecting your investment. Here is our expert advice on maintaining your surface to ensure it lasts well beyond our 10-year guarantee.
1. The Basics: Sweeping and Washing
The easiest way to keep your drive looking fresh is to prevent dirt from settling into the texture of the stone.
Sweep regularly: Use a stiff broom to remove leaves, twigs, and loose dirt. If organic matter is left to rot, it can create "food" for moss or weeds to grow on top.
The Gentle Power Wash: You can pressure wash your resin drive, but be careful! Keep the nozzle at least 20-30cm away from the surface and use a fan spray rather than a direct jet to avoid dislodging the stones.
2. Dealing with Spills
Resin bound surfaces are resistant to most common liquids, but you should still act fast:
Oil & Petrol: If you notice a leak from a vehicle, soak it up immediately with an absorbent cloth. Use a mild household detergent (like washing up liquid) and warm water to scrub the area.
Tyre Marks: Occasionally, "tyre scrubbing" can happen if wheels are turned sharply while the car is stationary. Most of the time, these marks will naturally wear off or can be cleaned with a stiff brush and soapy water.
3. Winter Care: Ice and Snow
One of the best things about resin is its permeability, which reduces ice patches. However, if you do get snow:
Use Plastic Shovels: Avoid metal shovels, as they can scratch or chip the resin surface.
Salt is Fine: You can use common rock salt (grit) to prevent ice. Once the cold snap is over, just give the drive a quick wash to remove the salty residue.
4. What to Avoid
To protect your 10-year guarantee, avoid the following:
Heavy Loads: While resin is incredibly strong for cars and vans, avoid placing heavy skips or pointed jacks directly on the surface without using "spreader boards" to distribute the weight.
Harsh Chemicals: Never use solvents or bleach on your resin driveway.
